Do animal have a 6th sense??

Do animal know when disaster is about to happen?

In the devastated area of Sri Lanka they haven't found any dead animals. Why is that? Did the animal flee because they, in a way, knew something would happen?

Update january 7th.

Josse Ford have more on this subject and some interessting thoughts:

Animals used sixth sense to escape tsunami

There has been a lot of mention lately on the various news outlet how there seemed to be no dead animals from the Asian Tsunami. I think that human beings have this sixth sense as well and it's as natural as breathing or sleeping. We have got out of touch with it because of our fast frantic life and because people believe that it's supernatural ability rather than something each of us has access to. more>>>

There were elephants who were upset at the time of the earthquake and then at the time of the tidal wave they ran for high ground before their mahouts knew what was happening:

As the previous poster suggested, the elephants cried at the time of the earthquake and were then calmed down by their mahouts. Before the tsunamis struck they became restless again the mahouts had to let them leave the camp and head into the hills. They followed their charges and were saved. There is another story about oxen, once again being scared, their villagers also followed them and were saved.

Elephants are very sensitive to vibrations, they could easily have felt the tremors that humans cannot. I'm not sure about the oxen. But it seems all sorts of animals were wary.
